ABOUT TARTOOMBRIA
This web site realized by Lorenzo Santoni and
his wife Micaela. Lorenzo is an Italian naturalist passionate
in zoology, ethology and botanic. From over ten years he is devoted
to the research, observation and study of a Testudo
hermanni Umbrian population. His activity, firstly directed
to Umbrian territory, is now extended to other species and other
regions.
We give particular evidence to the photographic census, a new and important instrument of nature protection, starting point to future projects. In the web site we find several competences such as naturalistic pictures, knowledge of territory and Umbrian history, breeding experience. You can also find several pictures from all over the world.
This web site is devoted to the promotion, the study and the protection of wild Umbrian turtles & tortoises (Emys orbicularis and Testudo hermanni hermanni), but between its pages we can find several interesting subjects about breeding turtles, exotic turtles & tortoises, curiosities and several informations on Italian species regional endemisms : such as Testudo hermanni, Testudo graeca (sin. Furculachelys), Testudo marginata and Emys orbicularis.
We identify in the presence of Testudo hermanni in our region as an important biological indicator, Tartoombria is committed to study this wild population in a marginal zone of its distribution which presents uniform morphological and behaviour characteristics, probably a regional endemism never descripted before.
Just to show morphological characteristics, by using standard parameters we realised tables where you can find morphometric comparison.
